As part of Uruguay’s National Day at the EXPO 2025 Osaka, the official delegation—comprising 35 representatives from both the public and private sectors—participated in the event with the aim of strengthening bilateral relations. Prior to their participation, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mario Lubetkin, visited the headquarters of Uruguay XXI, where he emphasized the institutional and private sector commitment to national promotion. (Uruguay XXI: the agency responsible for promoting exports, investments, and the country’s image abroad.)
On June 16, the Uruguayan delegation formally began its official agenda by holding a business seminar titled “Why Uruguay? Trade and Investment Opportunities” at the headquarters of the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO). During the opening ceremony, the Minister of Livestock, Agriculture, and Fisheries, Alfredo Fratti, underscored Uruguay’s identity as an agro-exporting nation and reaffirmed its strong commitment to sustainability. Following the seminar, they held a high-level meeting with JETRO counterparts, where they discussed the bilateral agenda in greater depth, with a particular focus on agro-industry, technology, and sustainable trade.
The following day, as part of the National Day celebrations, an official ceremony was held with the participation of senior Japanese authorities, including the Minister of Agriculture, Hiroyoshi Sasagawa; the Commissioner General of the EXPO, Koji Haneda; and representatives from the Osaka prefectural government. The event featured a traditional Japanese tea ceremony and a candombe performance by the Quinteto Barrio Sur. In addition, the delegations made reciprocal visits to each other’s pavilions and shared a luncheon featuring Uruguayan meats and wines, which were presented as emblematic of the country’s sustainable agro-export model. Uruguay XXI expressed a positive evaluation of the activities carried out during the EXPO 2025 Osaka, highlighting the event as a strategic opportunity to position Uruguay as a reliable and attractive partner on the international stage.
