The 17th BRICS Summit was held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on July 6–7. President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva of Brazil welcomed the visiting leaders of the BRICS member states. President Prabowo Subianto of Indonesia attended the summit for the first time since Indonesia’s official accession to BRICS in January 2025. According to Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, President Prabowo emphasized Indonesia’s role as a “bridge” in addressing a wide range of global issues. The Ministry also stated on its official website that Indonesia intends to actively leverage the BRICS platform to promote fairer and more inclusive global cooperation, while advancing national interests in areas such as the economy, finance, education, and technology.
