Vietnam becomes an important partner for Argentina

In recent years, Vietnam has become an increasingly important commercial partner for Argentina. Argentine exports to Vietnam rose from US$ 1.8 billion in 2015 to US$ 3.3 billion in 2024, while imports increased from US$ 329 million to US$ 778 million in the same period. This resulted in a positive trade balance for Argentina with Vietnam in recent years. In 2024, the trade surplus reached US$2.5 billion, making Vietnam Argentina’s seventh most important trading partner in terms of total trade volume. Key export products include soybean meal and corn.

This favorable trend continued into the first quarter of 2025, with Argentina recording a trade surplus of US$399 million with Vietnam becoming Argentina’s fourth largest trade surplus partner in that period. With this reason, the Argentine Government will open an agro-industrial advisory office in Vietnam, according to Infobae.

Neither Argentina nor other MERCOSUR countries currently have a trade agreement with Vietnam. However, Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh expressed interest in negotiating a free trade agreement between Vietnam and MERCOSUR during Brazilian President Lula da Silva’s visit to Vietnam this past March, according to Infobae.
