Presidents of Brazil and Mexico Hold Bilateral Meetings with the President of the Republic of Korea During the G7 Summit

Between June 15 and 17, the leaders of the Group of Seven (G7) convened in Kananaskis, Canada. On this occasion, the G7 welcomed several invited heads of state, including the Presidents of the Republic of Korea, Brazil, and Mexico. The summit featured multiple bilateral and multilateral engagements. Notably, the newly inaugurated President of the Republic of Korea, Lee Jae-myung, held bilateral meetings with Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, with the aim of advancing comprehensive and strategic partnerships.

The Korea–Brazil bilateral summit marked the first high-level meeting in a decade. During the meeting, President Lula formally invited President Lee to attend the 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30), emphasizing the importance of joint efforts in addressing global challenges such as climate change.

In the summit between Korea and Mexico, President Lee highlighted that Mexico was the first country in the region with which Korea established a strategic partnership, and remains its principal trading partner in Latin America. He also extended an invitation to President Sheinbaum to attend the 2025 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit to be held in Korea. President Sheinbaum expressed her appreciation for Korean investments in Mexico and conveyed her hopes for enhanced cooperation in advanced technology sectors.
