Scholarships to study in Japan

The Japanese government has opened a call for Uruguayan citizens to apply for scholarships to pursue university, short-term tertiary programs, and postgraduate studies in that country. Applicants who wish to pursue an undergraduate degree must be under 24 years old as of April 1, 2026, and have proficiency in the Japanese language. For postgraduate studies (master’s and doctoral programs), applicants must be under 34 years of age as of the same date; however, Japanese language proficiency is not a mandatory requirement.

The scholarships cover academic and medical expenses as well as some living costs. Applications are open until June 6 at 12:00 PM, and detailed information about these scholarships can be found on the website of the Embassy of Japan in Uruguay.
