The Ministry of Agriculture of Brazil suspended temporarily the sanitary certificates for the exportation of beef to China after a case of mad cow disease was reported. The Secretary of Agricultural Defense of the ministry mentioned that the case was registered in a cut of beef of 17 years old.

Brazil secured new market openings for agricultural products in New Zealand and Turkey, expanding its international insertion. The agreements reflect the growing role of sanitary negotiation in the expansion of trade between Latin America and other regions, including the Asia-Pacific.
