Mexico and Singapore strengthen their strategic relationship with new cooperation commitments

On December 1, 2025, the president of Singapore, Tharman Shanmugaratnam, visited Mexico to attend a luncheon hosted by the president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum. This visit marked a milestone, as it was the first time that a president of Singapore made an official visit to a Latin American country.

During the meeting, Mexico confirmed its decision to ratify the Free Trade Agreement between the Pacific Alliance (PA) and Singapore (PASFTA), signed on January 26, 2022, while Singapore announced its plan to establish a resident embassy in Mexico City.

The leaders of both countries emphasized that the meeting opens new opportunities not only to strengthen the flow of bilateral trade and productive investment, but also to deepen cooperation in sectors such as technology, innovation, environmental protection, culture, and food security.
