Leaders of China and Latin America and the Caribbean Meet at the 4th Ministerial Meeting of the China-CELAC Forum

On May 13, 2025, the 4th Ministerial Meeting of the China-CELAC Forum was held in Beijing, the capital of China. Notably, among the Latin American representatives, Colombian President Gustavo Petro, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, and Chilean President Gabriel Boric attended the Forum and held a summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping. In his opening remarks, Xi Jinping emphasized that since the official launch of the Forum ten years ago, China and LAC countries have closely cooperated and expanded synergies between the two sides. 

As part of the meeting, the Chinese president announced five programs aimed at fostering development, revitalization, and building of a shared future community between China and LAC. These are: 

  • Solidarity Program: Reinforce mutual support on fundamental issues and present a united voice on international affairs.
  • Development Program: Promote economic cooperation through the Belt and Road Initiative and strengthen supply chains.
  • Civilization Program: Promote intercultural dialogue and shared human values.
  • Peace Program: Enhance cooperation on regional security and address global threats.
  • People-to-People Program: Expand educational, cultural, and social exchanges between China and LAC.

In addition to the leaders’ summit, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi held bilateral meetings with several Latin American counterparts to explore further cooperation opportunities.
