The workshop will bring together 22 delegates from 14 of the 36 FEALAC member states as well as those handling FEALAC affairs at the diplomatic missions of the FEALAC countries stationed in the Republic of Korea.
At the workshop, the participant countries will review their progress in the implementation of the recommendations made in the Vision Group Final Report submitted during the sixth FEALAC Foreign Ministers’ meeting in June 2013.
They will also discuss ways to follow up on these recommendations.
FEALAC is the only multilateral inter-governmental consultative mechanism between East Asia and Latin America launched in 1999 and composed of 36 member states – 16 East Asian and 20 Latin American.
The ROK, chosen as the host country of the FEALAC Cyber Secretariat at the fourth FEALAC Foreign Ministers’ meeting held in Japan in January 2010, has since been operating it.
It has also hosted the FEALAC Cyber Secretariat workshop on an annual basis since 2011 to seek strategies for FEALAC development and ways to step up cooperation between East Asia and Latin America.
The ROK has been actively contributing to the development of FEALAC by: serving as a Regional Coordinator of East Asia in 2004-2007 and a co-chair of one of FEALAC’s Working Groups in 2007-2013
proposing the establishment of the Vision Group
and hosting and operating the Cyber Secretariat.
The upcoming fourth FEALAC Cyber Secretariat workshop is expected to serve as a good opportunity to shed light on the ROK’s leading role in FEALAC and seek new ways to promote cooperation between East Asia and Latin America.
