Mexico, Indonesia, Korea, Turkey and Australia to meet

The latest meeting has been upgraded to Vice Minister level to celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries this year.

The Vice Ministers of the two countries noted that bilateral trade and investment have been steadily growing and decided to further expand them by taking advantage of their potential for complementary cooperation.

Vice Minister Cho appreciated Korean companies’ recent entry into the area of energy infrastructure construction in Uruguay, including the construction of combined cycle power plants and LNG storage facilities.

The Vice Minister hoped that building upon such achievement, mutually-beneficial economic cooperation will further grow.

In response, Vice Minister Porto hoped to see more active participation of Korean companies in harbor development, the construction of a deepwater port, and the creation of a shipbuilding industry complex, the areas the Uruguayan government is actively working on.

Vice Minister Porto expressed satisfaction over the resumption of Uruguayan beef exports to the ROK last year and offered to further strengthen government support to expand exchanges between the two countries’ industries.

In a bid to promote the development of Uruguay’s science and technology sector, the Vice Minister proposed to increase bilateral cooperation in information and communication, bio industry, and space information.

He also asked the ROK side to expand exchanges between experts in science and technology of the two countries, as well as training programs for Uruguayan students in the ROK.
