The President of the Republic, Yamandú Orsi, accepted an official invitation from Japan’s Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, Horii Iwao, to pay a visit to Tokyo in 2026.
The invitation was extended during a bilateral meeting between Uruguay’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mario Lubetkin, and Japan’s Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, Horii Iwao, which was also attended by the Vice President of the Republic of Uruguay, Carolina Cosse.
The Executive Branch reported that this visit is part of a broader agenda aimed at strengthening ties with Asia, which includes potential presidential meetings with other countries in the region during 2026, to reinforce political, economic, and international cooperation links.
