The objectives of the Malaysia Services Exhibition were to promote exports of Malaysian services and related products to Brazil and Chile, to explore opportunities for collaborations, smart partnerships and joint ventures with the business communities in Brazil and Chile, to familiarize Malaysian companies with the business environment in Brazil and Chile and to outreach the vast Latin American market, a non-traditional market to be tapped.

The MSE in Santiago, Chile generated RM 121 million of sales with 99 business meetings arranged by MATRADE.

Virtual Network Operating services, logistics services, automotive batteries and exclusive fashion design of Batik recorded the highest contribution in sales.

Currently Brazil is Malaysia´s largest trading partner in Latin America with total trade amounting to RM 8.

Malaysia is expected to maintain its position as the largest exporter of natural rubber gloves, catheters and latex thread to Brazil.

Chile is Malaysia’s only FTA partner in Latin America.

In 2012, Malaysia’s total trade with Chile amounting to RM 1.

Malaysia is the largest exporter of medical gloves to Chile, 5th largest exporter of furniture and a leading exporter of palm oil products.

Malaysian companies are targeting Chile as the gateway to enter the Latin American market due to its open economy, ease of doing business and reputation for strong financial institutions.

Other potential sectors for Malaysian companies to export to Latin America are construction services, infrastructure development, oil & gas, information & communication technology (ICT), logistics, building materials, medical devices, automotive parts & components and medical devices.
