On February 8, 2026, Chile and China celebrate the 12th anniversary of the entry into force of the supplementary investment agreement to the Free Trade Agreement (FTA). This instrument is part of the process of deepening the original FTA, which has been in force since October 1, 2006, and was later expanded through the Services Agreement (2010), the Supplementary Investment Agreement (2014), and the Protocol Amending the FTA and the Services Agreement (2019).
The investment agreement establishes provisions related to the admission and protection of investments, national treatment and most-favored-nation treatment, the free transfer of capital, transparency, and dispute settlement mechanisms between the parties.
The agreement promotes economic ties between the two countries by establishing a regulatory framework that provides greater predictability and legal certainty for investors.
