Uruguay and Australia mark the fourth anniversary of the entry into force of the Agreement for the Promotion and Protection of Investments (APPI)

On January 27, 2026, Uruguay and Australia will mark the fourth anniversary of the entry into force of the Agreement for the Promotion and Protection of Investments (APPI). This agreement, which had originally come into force since 2002, was replaced by a new treaty that entered into force on January 27, 2022.

The agreement aims to promote foreign investment by strengthening favorable conditions and establishing certain standards. The 2022 version succeeded in providing clearer definitions of abstract concepts and incorporating broader coverage of different areas into the agreement.

According to Uruguay XXI, some Australian investments in Uruguay are concentrated in sectors such as the manufacture of concrete, cement, and plaster products; the leasing of other types of machinery, equipment, and tangible goods; and the wholesale trade of other agricultural raw materials.
