o In his congratulatory address, Vice Minister Kim extended his congratulations on the 50th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations and wished the Gilt-Bronze Incense Burner of the Baekje Dynasty to remain as a symbol of bilateral friendship and trust for long.
Vice Minister Kim also noted that bilateral relations are at their highest point as can be seen in the bilateral summit held on October 7 on the sidelines of the APEC Leaders’ Meeting and hoped that the two countries will further promote mutually-beneficial cooperation and co-prosperity, building upon the bilateral relations they have developed over the past 50 years.
o Deputy Minister Rojas expressed deep appreciation for the ROK’s donation of the Gilt-Bronze Incense Burner of the Baekje Dynasty.
Stressing that the ROK is Peru’s special friend, the Deputy Minister offered to work together to develop bilateral relations into wider and deeper ones.

Vice Minister Kim and Deputy Minister Rojas held the Fourth ROK-Peru High-level Policy Consultation as a follow-up to the ROK-Peru Summit held on October 7.
The two sides reviewed what was addressed at the Summit and discussed specific implementation measures.
They also agreed to build partnership for mutually-beneficial cooperation and shared growth, including through transfer of technology between the two countries.
o In particular, Vice Minister Kim requested the Peruvian government’s attention and cooperation to facilitate the ROK companies’ more active participation in the country’s major national development projects in energy resources, infrastructure and the defense industry, which President Park Geun-hye proposed as areas for bilateral cooperation during the latest Summit.
Vice Minister Kim also offered to cooperate in education, science and technology.

Vice Minister Kim’s visit to Peru holds significance in that it further solidified friendship and trust between the ROK and Peru, whose relations are at their highest point, on the 50th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations.
It is also significant that during his visit, the two sides held in-depth discussions on specific ways to implement follow-up measures to the latest Summit.

The ROK-Peru relations have developed dramatically in recent years.
The ROK and Peru upgraded their relations to a “comprehensive strategic partnership” during Peruvian President Ollanta Humala’s state visit to the ROK in May, 2012.
In addition, the ROK-Peru FTA took effect in August, 2012 and the two countries have held summits every year for the past six years.
The ROK and Peruvian leaders held a telephone conversation in April and also held the summit on October 7 on the sidelines of the APEC Leaders’ Meeting.
o The trade volume between the two countries has sharply increased from 1.
5 billion US dollars in 2009 to 3.
1 billion US dollars in 2012.
The accumulated amount of the ROK’s investment in Peru is about 4.
1 billion US dollars, with the ROK companies’ investment increasing rapidly.
o Furthermore, the ROK and Peru signed a deal to export twenty of the ROK’s domestically-produced KT-1 trainer jets to Peru, the first of its kind in Latin America (November, 2012).
The ROK exported 800 police patrol cars to Peru under an inter-governmental contract, the first case in the world in the non-defense area (December, 2012).
The ROK also exported two landing platform dock (LPD) ships to Peru (July, 2013).
All of these reflect remarkable achievements in bilateral relations.
