Universidad del Pacífico promotes strategic academic dialogue on China and Latin America with high-level international meeting

Universidad del Pacífico organized the international meeting “Adaptive China: Connecting with Local Realities in Latin America and Beyond” through its Center for China and Asia-Pacific Studies (CECHAP), in collaboration with the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.

During the event, the university’s Vice President, Gustavo Yamada, highlighted the expansion of trade exchanges between Latin America and China, while Cynthia Sanborn, Director of CECHAP, emphasized the center’s role in promoting research and dialogue on China and the Asia-Pacific region.

The opening lecture was delivered by Jorge Heine, former Chilean ambassador to China, India, and South Africa, who analyzed China’s influence in Latin America and the need for the region to build balanced relations with key actors in the international system.

The event marked a milestone by underscoring Latin America’s importance in creating spaces for dialogue that integrate international research with regional experience.
