The conference “the vision of Japan toward the world and Latin America” presented by Tatsuhiro Shindo, ambassador of Japan in Uruguay, was held in the headquarters of ALADI in the morning of June 26 as part of activity of Latin America-Asia Pacific Observatory.
During the presentation, the ambassador Shindo emphasized the role of EPA (Economic Partnership Agreement) as the main instruments to encourage the integration of Japan with its main trade partners. Currently, Japan has 18 agreements, signed or already in effect, and has prioritized the negociation of mega-trade agreements with its main strategic partners such as the valid agreement with European Union, CPTPP (Comprehensive and Progressive agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership), RCEP (Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership) and the agreements between Japan, China and South Korea.
In Latin America, he also focused on the presence of investment of Japan in Mexico and Brazil and profound agreemnts of economic integration that Japan has in Chile, Mexico and Peru as well as one that Japan is negotiating with Colombia. Ambassador Shindo manifested interest and desire of Japan to advance an Economic Association Agreement with the countries of MERCOSUR and stressed the close relations between Japan and Uruguay, which has allowed Japan to expand the trade with Uruguay.
