In 2025, it will be the 33rd anniversary of the entry into force of the Agreement to Avoid Double Taxation and Fiscal Evasion, signed between Brazil and India. The said agreement was signed on 26 April 1988 and entered into force on 5 November 1992. Brazil, as a member of MERCOSUR, is also a party to a commercial agreement with India that has a limited coverage of products, which is in the process of being updated.
The bilateral relationship between the two countries is particularly close as both countries are members of the BRICS.
Regarding the bilateral trade between Brazil and India, the exports increased from USD 3.6 billion in 2015 to USD 5.2 billion in 2024, with a growth rate of 45.8%. Similarly, the imports grew in the same period, from USD 4.2 billion to USD 6.8 billion.
Meanwhile, the 4 main products that represented more than 70% of the products sent to India were: petroleum oils, soybean oil, cane sugar, and gold, while the imported products from India are characterized by a diversified structure and consist of industrial inputs and products.
