On February 23, 2026, the President of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, began his visit to South Korea at the invitation of South Korean President Lee Jae-myung.
The visit aimed to broaden high-level political dialogue, explore opportunities to establish a strategic partnership, and strengthen bilateral exchanges in sectors such as semiconductors, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, artificial intelligence, and the energy transition.
During the summit, both leaders reaffirmed the need to advance negotiations on the trade agreement between South Korea and the Southern Common Market (Mercosur), describing it as an “urgent task”. For a prompt achievement of this goal, the two countries signed ten memorandums of understanding in various sectors.
They also shared the expectation of achieving sustainable growth and discussed issues such as the defense industry, green industry, energy transition, and expanding supply chains through the trade of Brazil’s natural resources.
The ministers and other government agencies, in turn, agreed to establish official channels of dialogue to expand economic and political cooperation between the two countries.
