In search of a way to avoid the trap of the medium income: the cases of China and Peru

This book offers a comparative approach of the cases of economic development of China and Peru. It is a collective work written by 22 authors, from China and Peru. This dual approach aims at promoting the mutual knowledge and identifying lessons learnt. China and Peru are medium income economies which aspire to rise to the group of high income economies. The obstacles in this way shape the so-called “trap of the medium income”, which would be essentially a growth trap. The book discusses several main issues which influence in this process. For instance, the economic transition in both countries, the trends of their openness to the world, the investment in infrastructure in one case and the infrastructure gap in the other, the challenges of the regional development in both parties, the role of innovation as an engine for the future growth and its constraint, among other issues.
