The 17th BRICS Summit was held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on July 6–7. President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva of Brazil welcomed the visiting leaders of the BRICS member states. Among the Asia-Pacific representatives, notable participants included Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India, President Prabowo Subianto of Indonesia, and Premier Li Qiang of China. In his opening remarks, President Lula da Silva emphasized the representativeness and diversity of the BRICS bloc, underlining its potential to promote peace, prevent conflicts, and mediate disputes on a global scale.
As the country holding the BRICS presidency in 2025, Brazil guided the overall direction of the summit. In his part, key agenda items included: “Peace and Security and the Reform of Global Governance,” “Strengthening Multilateralism, Economic and Financial Affairs, and Artificial Intelligence,” and “Environment, COP30, and Global Health.”
Furthermore, as a founding member of BRICS since its official launch in 2010, Brazil has consistently worked to strengthen cooperation with other countries across a wide range of sectors.
