On July 5, the President of Argentina, Javier Milei, received the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, at the Casa Rosada in Buenos Aires. Senior officials from both countries, including foreign ministers and ambassadors, also participated in the summit.
Among them, the Argentine Ambassador to India, Mariano Caucino, shared his perspective on the strategic relationship between the two nations in a column published by Infobae: According to his analysis, bilateral trade has stabilized at approximately 5 billion USD, positioning India as one of Argentina’s top five trading partners. At present, Argentina is the leading supplier of soybean oil to the Indian market. Furthermore, Indian mining companies have expanded their investments in Argentina with the objective of advancing their electric vehicle (EV) production and have signed a Memorandum of Understanding with companies in the energy sector. Additionally, in the areas of security and politics, both countries continue to expand their cooperation. Ambassador Caucino assessed that Prime Minister Modi’s visit marks a new milestone for enhanced collaboration, as well as an opportunity to strengthen a friendship that dates back nearly eight decades.
Separately, India signed a trade agreement with MERCOSUR in 2004, which has been in effect since 2009. However, the agreement covers a limited list of tariff-exempt products.
